An independent website opens up course material to those beyond the current class and provides more flexibility than in-university websites. After trying to work for several years with university Blackboard systems, and wasting a great deal of time on access issues and limits in having the site do what I wanted, I just decided to take the time to set up independent websites for every class that I teach. Here are the others:
Creating the website also helps me organize my thoughts on the subject, categorizes the subject matter, and allows me -- and you -- to tackle the various elements of knowledge work, developing expertise and authority one manageable step at a time.
